Victory may be Glorious 'but those who died shall be buried' .. Andrew Hillhouse captures the scene in 1745

Andrew Hillhouse adds another fine painting to the Battle Trust's Collection

At Prestonpans in 1745 the Prince gave two quite specific instructions following the defeat of Cope's redcoats. Firstly, all the wounded should be treated at Bankton House, all were The King's subjects. Second, that the local community in Prestonpans should bury those who died at the site of the battle.

Records show where these burials took place and Andrew Hillhouse has presented the scene as carefully as ever, adding a sixth painting to the Battle Collection the Trust now holds - for eventual display at the anticipated Living History Centre along with the Prestonpans Tapestry.
