The Dean Tavern - A Gothenburg Experiment

Photographs and Illustrations
Part of the Square (built 1914). These larger houses were for colliery officials. In later years the Square deteriorated and got a bad name locally.
The company railway level crossing was called the White Gates. The S.M.T bus in the centre is fuelled by gas held in a huge balloon on the roof.
Abbeyland viewed from the public park. This was the original village of Newtongrange, Romans's building can be seen on the right of the picture.
A view of the bottom end of the village, looking along Main Street. The gasworks chimney is on the left and Abbeyland is on the right. The colliery railway line to the gasworks and the redd bing crossed the street just past the horse and cart.
