Rosemary Farmer - fine embroiderer and leader - has sadly died

Very sad to record that Rosemary Farmer has passed away

It is with deepest regret we relate the news to all who knew her that ROSEMARY FARMER has died. Her immense contribution to the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry as a mentor, writer and friend was immeasurable. Our condolences to her husband Bruce and her family across the world.

This photograph of Rosemary [below left holding her Bendigo Gold Rush Panel AU19] was taken when Jenny Bruce arrived in Albury Australia in 2015 to be greeted at the beginning of her exhibitions there for the Diaspora Tapestry.

Her 'love of a Gold Rush' also led her to stitch Gabriel's Gulley NZ06 [above right] and to help with several others in New Zealand - NZ05 & NZ07.

We cannot thank her enough for her warm friendship, support and companionship later in Sydney, but especially in Dunedin New Zealand. Her care and attention and experience there ensured the tapestry was in the best conditions for its onward journey across the Pacific to Canada and the USA then home via Iceland in 2017.

It was Rosemary's initiative that also gave us The Art of Narrative Embroidery jointly with Margaret Ferguson.

Rosemary Farmer felt that it would be possible to create a useful guide for embroiderers if examples were taken from all the panels in the Prestonpans and Scottish Diaspora tapestries and, after hundreds of hours careful analysis with Margaret Ferguson, this excellent book was created. It's been very popular, indeed a good seller! It's still available at our Boutique linked HERE
