Tapestry exhibition links to Seven Oaks Bicentenary chance to share again the murals of Stony Plain, Alberta!
Metis and Murals connect from Winnipeg to Stony Plain
The Prestonpans Murals Programme, and in particular the Global Murals Congress held in The Pans in 2006 LINKED HERE, opened our connections with Stony Plain in Alberta, Canada. Today that community has some 36 beautifully preserved murals in the heart of downtown telling its historical origins LINKED HERE
So it was a coincidence to find that as the Diaspora Tapestry was on display in Winnipeg that one of the panels, The Battle of Seven Oaks CA 23, was having its 200th Anniversary. That celebration by chance brought Metis and Selkirk Scots family descendants today from Stony Plain and Winnipeg together ... who discovered they were long lost cousins!
So in slack time during the Exhibition your Editor here was able to return again to Stony Plain and take a look at the murals ... [and the seated sculptures!] .... and particularly recall the town's longstanding twinning with Shikaoi in Japan so beautifully commemorated on the Town Hall - below. The respective Mayors cross dressed!
