Petition to Protect the Prestonpans Battlefield soars beyond 11,000 Supporters
A massive show of public support and commitment to protect and interpret the 1745 Prestonpans battlesite ...
The 1745 Battle of Prestonpans Heritage Trust has received overwhelming support for the Petition to be presented to East Lothian Council, Prestonpans Community Council and the Scottish Government. At the time of writing fully 11,000 have added their names and rationale for such support.

Even as this Petition was gathering momentum nationally and globally it received a much appreciated fillip from social media comment shared by Diana Gabaldon of Outlander fame coming in the very week the tv adaptation of her novel brought Claire and Jamie to the Battle of Prestonpans!
The same week also brought the intriguing news that Inchcape / Repsol [who had gained Planning Consent in Principle from ELC and without objection from Historic Environement Scotland to build a SubStation on the battlesite for a putative offshore energy farm] have sold out their interest to a Chinese investor, SDIC Power!
'SDIC Power's €238m deal involves the acquisition of Repsol’s UK offshore wind business. The Beijing-controlled company has closed the deal on the back of this week’s positive final investment decision on the 588MW Beatrice offshore wind farm off the coast of Scotland. SDIC took Repsol’s 25% stake in the project as part of the deal that was first announced in February. The acquisition includes full control of the consented 784MW Inch Cape wind farm off the east coast of Scotland'.
P.S. As followers here will recall, the land on which the putative SubStation might stand is what the 1745 Battle Heritage Trust believes to be the site of mass graves from the battle; and the Trust already has its own plans to erect two commemorative tables there in a Field of Remembrance - for which it also has Planning Consent in Principle.
