Prestonpans Re-enactments last on Grandscale till 2018 ... but meantime
East Lothian 'Three Battles' Re-enactment Cycle begins in 2016 - Dunbar then Pinkie & then in 2018 Prestonpans Again
Those who've been fascinated with learning more and more about the battle in Prestonpans in September 1745 are all set for yet more tales from September .. both Dunbar 1650 with Oliver Crowmell and Pinkie Cleugh in 1547 with Mary Queen of Scots and the Duke of Somerset were also fought in September.
Now in partnership with East Lothian Council, 'National' EventScotland and each battlesite's local history groups, the Scottish Battlefields Trust is masterminding a triennial re-enactment cycle. It will always be the third weekend in September each year with each battle re-enacted locally every third year. In September 2016 it will be Dunbar's turn and something quite magnificent is already promised!
So whilst there was just a wee tinge of sadness in The Pans last weekend as the 9 year re-enactment run takes a rest, there's a great deal to look forward to. And be assured each of the locations will still do more modest re-enactments and commemorations in their intervening years.
