Are Looking for an excuse to visit New Zealand?
Mural artists could recoup their airfare by entering Katikati Open-Air Art’s inaugural Mural Contest. The theme is The River was the Road and the June Carlton Memorial first prize has a value of NZ$ 2000.
Up to eight finalists will be selected to spend five days in Katikati Mural Town painting their murals in public. They have been offered free billets [digs/ accommodation] and the contest will be part of a week-long festival which includes a sculpture contest, children’s art competition, exhibitions of Maori craft, quilting, mosaics, patchwork and embroidery as well as the Katikati Art Group’s annual art exhibition.
This will be a fun packed week starting with a Champagne Breakfast to launch the mural contest and including street dancing, a raft race, auction of art works and much more.
Katikati Open-Air Art would love to have an overseas artist included among the mural finalists. Submissions on the theme must be in by August 17 and finalists will be required to paint on site from September 26-30 inclusive.
