Children Use Murals Images for Street Banners
Gala Week and Children's Art at The Gothenburg
This year the Gothenburg has been playing a more active part on the Gala Week Committee and whilst the James Fewell Bar is offering special service for its adult clients the children are also very much in focus.
In particular an exhibition of children's art has been arranged in the Thomas Nelson Suite showing the results of a P5 Project at St Gabriel's and Prestonpans Primary Schools at the suggestion of Councillor Pat O'Brien, the Provost.

The project work sought banners to display along the High Street during Gala Week and was organised by the Council's Arts Service leaders Joanna Mawdsley and Lesley Smith.
Children made visits to local historic sites around the town crafting preliminary sketches. Jeanette Smedler, a local textile artist, then worked with the children to create the multiple banners seen fluttering in the High Street below. Several were flatteringly based on the Arts Festival's own murals... art on art!
