Battle Fun & Confer-ing - June 4th/ 6th

The 1st was widely enjoyed so we've extended the formula for 2010 ...

We were originally part sponsored in 2008 by the Heritage Lottery Fund to convene a National Scottish Battlefields Conference. As chance would have it, that got our timing just about right - nationally so to speak. After a year or more debate, Historic Scotland and the nation's Minister of Culture finally got the notion of a 'National Battlefield Inventory' in place, and Prestonpans moved into pole position.

Our 2nd National Biennial Conference, [2010 of course!] is to be convened [i] in Prestonpans Town Hall on Friday June 4th only and [ii] at Prestongrange Heritage Museum Friday 4th/ Sunday 6th inclusive. It is once again to be chaired by Herbert Coutts with Kristine Cunningham as Convenor. As the detailing below begins to indicate, the Town Hall sessions on Friday are the more traditional conference fare - knowledgeable speakers, Q&A sessions and Panel Discussions.

Away at Prestongrange Heritage Museum, BattleBus parked up close by and open for visitors, the Trust's Clan Exhibition will be continuously showing in the Power House all three days. The Trust's dvd and competitive Prestonpans BattleGaming with Gordon Veitch will be available on the Trust's topographical 10' x 8' board. [Can Cope win? The answer is some 40% of the time so far ...] Time thus spent can even serve as practice for teams wishing to compete in the Prestonpans BattleGame Grand 'Challenge Cup' Final on September 25th this year.

Sunday 6th at the Prestongrange Heritage Museum from 11.00 - 17.00 is Fun Time for the youngsters with re-enactors from the Glenbuckets on hand and Storytelling aplenty.
