Aberdeen Uni Researcher Probes Battle Ethnology of The Pans
Battlefield Ethnology of Prestonpans
...now there's a brain teaser for us all. But all will eventually come clear as Shirley Anne Watson, working for her doctorate at the University of Aberdeen, carries her investigations forward. She has already completed her Masters degree on Culloden as a battlefield site and she has approached us at the Battle of Prestonpans 1745 Heritage Trust at Alexander Bennett's suggestion [Alexander is Project Leader at Culloden for its current major development and visited us in The Pans in 2005 as we started our own campaigning].
Her particular focus we have been informed is to discern what our community itself thinks and feels about being the custodians of such a heritage battle site as we are in The Pans; and how it is presented to the public. As such she is researching "the cultural associations and contemporary interpretations of battlefields". She is very much interested in folklore and the associations certain battlefields hold for particular groups.
The results of such studies are bound to be of significance for our Trust as we move forward and as such we very much welcome Shirley Anne's work and will do all we can to assist her.
If any Supporter of our campaign would wish to assist Shirley Anne in these investigations, please let us know @ waukin@battleofprestonpans1745.org
