Other Scottish Goths

There was never any doubt in our minds that other Goths are still out and about and around, but apart from Dean Tavern in Newtongrange not a great deal is heard of them. Indeed in 1996 The Scotsman, September 14th saw Jim Gilchrist writing of The Twilight of The Goths.

The round robin to all who might be a Goth still in action in 2003 to enable the people concerned to meet/ hear of the coming of the Lord Mayor to Prestonpans brought good even proud news from the Goth at Main Street West, Armadale, Bathgate, West Lothian.

Armadale

They have staked their claim to seniority by purity and longevity and furnished their Annual Report for 2002 which showed a healthy quarter million sales and a creditable bottom line. Prestoungrange with Anne Wills and Lady Prestoungrange visited at noontime on June 7th camera to the ready and received a very warm welcome indeed ( simply walked in the door unannounced ) and were soon quenching their thirst with complimetary beers although no food was available for lunch!

Their Goth is pictured below and the fascinating history including the landmark tower is linked here. Their senior officer's were able to visit us in Prestonpans on July 23rd 2003, when the Lord Mayor came to town.

Dean Tavern at Newtongrange

Dean Tavern normally holds pole position in Gothenburg discussions - but it was in truth managed by senior coal mine executives rather than the drinkers themselves as at Armadale. But there is no scope for churlishness about its achievements in benefiting the local community as Alastair Anderson so carefully records in this historical analysis. On July 23rd 2003 we took the Lord and Lady Mayor of Goteborg to see the Dean Tavern for themselves.
