Scottish Qualifying Cup [South] Final: Annan 3 - Preston Athletic 1
First Time Ever to Tennent's Scottish Qualifying Cup [South] Final
Let's get the misery over first. Despite Jamie Campbell's goal depicted below, which put Preston Athletic 1 up, on our first time of asking in the Tennent's Qualifying Cup [South] Final we did not, alas, come home with the Cup. Annan won 3 - 1 and are also are shown with their Manager Harry Carirney holding the elusive trophy aloft flanked quite properly with their goal scorers Michael Jack [2] and Ian Grainger.

The press report given below from the Edinburgh Evening News Monday November 13th tells the play as it went. Both sides started nervously since neither had ever won the Qualifying Cup before although Annan had been to the Final twice before in 1996 and 1998 only to lose to Whitehall Welfare on both outings. Preston Athletic had of course never been before and were proudly sporting their red Prestoungrange Gothenburg shirts. The East Lothian Courier carried the full story later in the week showing the team getting the Runners Up medals. [By Saturday evening Stuart Miller was a happy man however, as Preston took Stenhousemuir out of The Tennent's 2006/ 2007 Scottish Cup in a 2-0 win, with Miller putting away the second of those goals after 55 minutes.]
