Neo-art Deco in The Pans .... Please Handle with Care
Why Should Our Town Lose its Heritage?
Nick Sharp and Coeval set a brilliant example. They took very good care of the old Fowler's HQ during their years there. And when they relocated out of town were truly sad to leave. So sad indeed that for their scrap book they cleaned the whole building up carefully and took photographs all around. These pictures of what the Arts Festival is seeking to preserve are now shown here for the first time. As can be seen the Entrance lobby, stairs, upstairs office areas and washrooms are all in excellent neo-art deco style and in fine condition. Considerable pride must also be taken in the Fowler's logo of the town's Mercat Cross to be found embedded in the lobby flooring - Coveal and Fowler's both called the building Mercat House, and rightly so.

How much damage has arisen during Lidl's period of neglect of the fully secured building we cannot know since entry is forbidden. Lidl has declared it Dangerous and entry risking a 'Public Safety Hasard'.

Well, Historic Scotland what say you? And you too Herren Lidl?
Historic Scotland are now scheduled to inspect the Fowler's HQ building at 10 am on Thursday August 16th. Let's all hope the neglect has not caused too much damage to these interiors that Nick Sharp and Coeval so carefully looked after. [Well done Nick!]
