The Clans are Gathering for The Prince ... Welcome to the Stewarts of Appin

The Call has gone out and the Clans are responding ... the Prince's army grows larger by the week ...

Behind the scenes of this coming September's re-enactments in Prestonpans wholly unique Paper Armies are being created - for The Prince and for Sir John Cope - HERE

Latest to join the Prince are the the Stewarts of Appin, represented in 1745/ 1746 as The Appin Regiment. Mostly comprising Stewart clansmen, they joined his army at Invergarry. The Regiment had a strength of around 200 men at Prestonpans under command of the famous swordsman Charles Stewart of Ardsheal. During the battle the Appins were posted beside the Camerons in Lord Murray's Division, and were involved in the thick of the fighting. Later in the campaign their famous yellow saltire was heroically rescued under intense fire at Culloden, and it now hangs in the National Museum of Scotland.

In Prestonpans today their role is remembered along Appin Drive that runs north from Schaw Avenue to Greenhills where the re-enactments will take place on September 15th & 16th. The Parade that opens the Commemorative weekend from 9.30/ 10.45 am on the 15th will proceed from Meadowmill, past the Miners' Memorial, along Schaw and Appin Drive to arrive at Greenhills.

Residents of Appin Drive will be encouraged, along with those from all other Clan eponymous streets thereabouts, to cheer the Parade along and later to join the encampment, marquee/ beer festival and splendid re-enactments running from 11am/ 5pm. There's an Early Bird Entrance Donation of £3/ £1.50 until 12 noon - a 50% discount on the normal suggested Donation. The Parade is Saturday only, but the 11am/ 5pm commemorations are open both on Saturday and Sunday.
