Scottish Jacobite 'Party Rally' at Colonel Gardiner's Obelisk

Scottish Jacobite Party Rallies to The Prince & The Colonel

John Black's idiosyncratic Scottish Jacobite Party selected the Colonel Gardiner Memorial Obelisk for its most recent Rally, meeting there at noon on Saturday 25th September. Considerable and most commendable efforts were made by the Party with their scythes to cut the grass and then to tidy up the memorial's sadly neglected surrounds. The Baron of Prestoungrange was invited along as Guest Speaker to outline the Heritage Trust's Campaign to commemorate the Battle more effectively in the future.

[Clearly the memorial must be restored and tidied as soon as possible. One of the four lions is without front paws and three of the six cast iron posts and all their chains are also missing. Furthermore, the memorial needs a thorough cleaning. Yet it is good to report some of these steps are already in hand with local community volunteers.]

It was, to say the least, an unexpected occasion but it provided an opportunity for one and all to learn more of Black's Aims which currently seek to prioritise unity amongst all political parties in favour of Scotland's independence onto a single slate at the May 2007 elections for the Scottish Parliament.

The Battle Heritage Trust does not of course include any political aims or issues as elements of its charitable 'Educational & Heritage' Aims and Objectives, but it does welcome all support from all appropriate quarters for its nationwide Campaign - which John Black and his colleagues have stated they are glad to offer.

Furthermore, it transpired, John Black is an active community leader in Helensburgh seeking similar aims to those of the Prestoungrange Arts Festival for that town.
