The Andrew Hillhouse Collection of 1745 Battle Paintings

Local Artist Andrew Hillhouse creates 4 outstanding new works of art

In 2010 the Battle Trust commissioned Andrew Hillhouse, who works with Edinburgh College of Art and stays locally in Cockenzie, to capture four of the most famous scenes from the Battle in 1745. They are now completed and all four appear below. They have already been exhibited at Cockenzie House and an ambitious exhibition schedule is planned for 2012 and beyond.

Now prints/posters of them all are available at £15 each + P&P of £3 [from the Boutique: CLICK RIGHT HERE ], directly at Exhibitions or from The Prestoungrange Gothenburg [closed Mondays].

Each carries an explanatory caption which in sequence read:

1. The Highlanders March at Night through the Riggonhead Defile [this is re-enacted every year now!]

2. The Camerons Charge to Capture the Redcoat Cannons

3. The Redcoats Surrender their Baggage Train at Cockenzie House

4. The Jenkinson Sisters Entertain the Highlanders Downstairs at Tranent Manse as Colonel Gardiner Dies Above

Extensive research support was provided by the Trust's historian, Arran Johnston.
