Station Mural Takes Railway Art Excellence Award along with Invergordon

Community Art Schemes - sponsored by the Association of Train Operating Companies /ATOC

Adele Conn and Convenor Andrew Crummy travelled to Plymouth for the 'Rail Community Art Awards' ceremony where her Pans Station Mural was twinned with Invergodon's. They carried off third prize against the competition identified below. Clearly it was a grand party the Rail Operators threw and well worth the long rail journey to Plymouth! Congratulations to Adele of course and to Ann Crawford who created the station mural at Invergordon.

Invergordon became Scotland's second mural town in 2006 and in 2009 an exchange 'rail tour' is planned by the Arts Festival with support from ScotRail.

The Citations for the first three Awards are as follows:

1st Place Dave Stocking - Sandown High School Inclusion Unit for the On Track Art

This ambitious art project saw young people from Sandown High Schools inclusion unit, work positively across their community to research and gather pictorial information for low relief sculpture panels to further improve Sandown stations disabled access.
The young people decided on a timeline showing the past, present and future of rail. A team of local artists then worked with the young people at the station through rain and shine to deliver this innovative art.
The artwork has been well received by the community and rail passengers alike and has given increased local ownership to the young people who took part.

2nd Place Emily Fuller, St Peter's School and Brian Lee for the St Albans Abbey Station Mosaics

To celebrate 150th Anniversary of the opening of the Abbey Line, the CRP wanted to improve St Albans Abbey Station. So they sought out a community artist to work with St Peters School to design and install a mosaic. The result is a beautiful piece of art that often stops passengers in their tracks on their way to the platform!

3rd Place Ann Crawford and Adele Conn for Invergordon and Prestonpans Station Murals

Prestonpans and Invergorden are Scotland’s two mural towns – with their railway stations now providing fitting gateways for visitors arriving by train as pictured - The Pans first and Invergordon below:
