Building Support for the Battle Visitor Centre ... what the papers say!

Reporting across Scotland

The arrival at Holyroodhouse Palace on Friday 21st September 2007 of HRH Prince Charles Edward, Bonnie Prince Charlie, for his Banquet attracted every publicity medium one could have expected. STV, BBC tv and radio, The Herald, The Scotsman and the Edinburgh Evening News. However, Royal Palaces are not available as backdrops for campaigns so the Highlander photography took place on the green with Arthur's Seat as the backdrop with the 77th Montgomeries from the Czech Republic as the main combattants but the Prestonpans Pipes and Drums were there too with many another.

The East Lothian Courier which had given strong editorial support in 1995 and was again much in support published a 4pp Supplement and a full page of pictures after the weekend re-enactments. East Lothian News published a photograph of re-enactors at Cockenzie House although the caption overlooked to mention the Highlanders were there specifically to capture Johnnie Cope's Baggage Train with £5000 inside the chest - originally gold specie but for this occasion an RBS cheque for that sum reflecting the help they gave the Prince in 1745.
