Colliery Regulations for New Year's Day 1848

Sir George Grant-Suttie took considerable care in 1847 to ensure that when the New Year dawned for 1848 that those he employed knew the Rules and Regulations... just eleven years after Queen Victoria ascended the throne and the AustroHungarian and Turkish Empires were still at their heights... and the British Empire covered 25% of the globe's land surfaces and all its seas.

Regulation X is particularly intriguing... and Regulation III provides a nice contrast with five days sick leave today on full pay...
