Global Conferential Tales XI: What The Media Saw Heard and Reported ...

Four Years Later and Four Days of Splendour

It is almost four years since the Global Association at its 3rd Biennial Conference in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan, invited Prestoungrange Arts Festival to convene the 5th Conference in Prestonpans. And the successful proposal involved a four year programme leading to a 4 Day Conference which is now upon us.

Some 120 international visitors and a host of local and Scottish guests at large have joined in a Summer Schoool, countless presentations and exchanges of views and ideas between the 60 members cities and towns, a Mural-in-a-Day, a Totem Pole Raising and a Civic Reception with Scotland's Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport in attendance ... and a final flourish at the Edinburgh Tattoo. The story of all these activities is told in Global Conferential Tales I - X at the links below:

Tale I: Little Baggage but We Got a Castle, some Golf, Whisky and a Tattoo
Tale II: School's in ... Masters Watching ... Painting ... Talking
Tale III: Put Out the Flags and Books and Talk Galore
Tale IV: Murals Going East and Johnnie Moat
Tale V: Murals Going West and Witchcraft
Tale VI: "Are ye waukin' yet" ... for Battlefield Breakfast?
Tale VII: Hey Johnnie Cope...We Did a Mural-in-a-Day!
Tale VIII: Totem Finally Rises ...above the Waves
Tale IX: Delights on the Beach and in The Gothenburg
Tale X: Pans Civic Hoorah but Au Revoir in Tasmania

In preparation for the Conference we pledged to paint at least 20 murals and complete the 23 chapter Prestonpans Historical Series in 250,000 words. Both these have been achieved by a magnificent group of volunteers with grants-in-aid and Baronial Trust funds, all captured in two outstanding new publications and the two 2007 Calendars published at the Conference.

Letting the Rest of The World Know About Murals

But of course conferences are about those attending having a fruitful and enjoyable time together. And as Global President Dr Karl Schutz would observe, given an additional WOW factor or two, others will be intrigued and just plain interested to know what is/ was afoot. And as the host town we are always keen to publicise our arts facilities to potential visitors.

As such we were delighted that The Scotsman, The Herald, The Edinburgh Evening News, East Lothian Courier and East Lothian News all saw fit to report some aspect of the Conference to their wide readerships ... as did BBC Scotland.
