The Prestoungrange Gothenburg, the Gardens
by Tom Ewing
In the gardens we encounter the start of the most controversial trail -The 81 Witches of Prestonpans. The Witches Gate, painted by Tom Ewing, shows some of the main characters in the witch-hunts. Mary Queen of Scots who signed the Scottish Witchcraft Act of 1563 and Scotland's most famous reformation minister, John Knox. On the other side of the gates we have Gellie Duncan, a servant who was accused of witchcraft and King James VI, who took a personal interest in the investigation.
