Exeat: Day 130/84: Patiently 'Out' with the Physios .. and Yorkshire Banns

Juli & Claire in charge … do as you're told! Yes, I was off to the first meeting since leaving 3 Shires to meet the physio team there. I was especially keen to get Juli's opinion on the balance between walking 400 yards ida y vuelta and managing the swelling in my leg. The suggestion as ever is that swelling will come down given time and time can be accelerated by getting the leg lifted higher than my heart; which means laying on the sofa in the Sitting Rom. So that's the plan! And of course an exercise regime for the knee and the leg as well as straightening up the pelvis. Claire, on the desk today, agreed; all helpful ….

It's National Whistleblowers Day … which has apparently been legally protected in the US since 1777. The day commemorates events set in motion by Lieutenant Richard Marven and Midshipman Samuel Shaw who served in the Confederate Navy. These two along with eight other sailors, reported abuses against British prisoners by Commodore Esek Hopkins. As a result of the sailors’ reports, the Continental Congress enacted the world’s first law protecting whistleblowers. The National Whistleblower Day is commemorated each since that was the day in 1778 when the Continental Congress passed its historic and unanimous resolution honouring the ten sailors and marines who spoke out against their commander’s abuses of his office. The Founding Fathers declared it was the duty of all Americans “to give the earliest information to Congress or other proper authority of any misconduct, frauds, or misdemeanours.” The US Senate first recognized National Whistleblower Day in 2013. In the present day there is an ever increasing number of Whistleblowers … and many infamous details exposed by Wikileaks. In off shore international banking circles Hervé Falciani, of HSBC's Swiss subsidiary HSBC Private Bank, has been a key figure. Since 2009 he has been collaborating with numerous European nations providing information relating to more than 130,000 suspected tax evaders with Swiss bank accounts.
Bradford and NW England put into renewed lockdown. Today saw Bradford + 4 million others across the NW of England facing reduced social contacts within families. That meant the Ilkley crew which was destined for Scotland next weekend including Mull, Loch Lomond and a stop at Ocean Apartments has had to necessarily cry off. In lieu, they'll be back to Weymouth joined this time by Lorna train-ing down from London. Whilst it was extremely annoying for them the extensive Muslim communities across that swathe of England whose familial structures are seemingly a key trigger in the spread of the virus, were deeply frustrated in all their plans to celebrate Eid Mubarak.
