Without Lochiel the Prince Knew he could scarcely Begin

Lochiel's support and the Camerons he commanded were vital to the Prince

Lochiel tried desperately to resist the traditional loyalty he felt so deeply to the Prince and his father James VIII & III. He knew the dangers they all faced. He sought to avoid a meeting. But as word spread of the Prince's determination he finally agreed to meet the Prince at Borrodale. And whilst there, as all knew he would, he agreed to bring his clansmen to Glenfinnan on August 19th and to see the Standard raised.

Lochiel's descendant Cameron Chief today has been a member of our Battle Trust's Committee of High Patronage since our foundation and is meeting very shortly with Sarah Casey who is already stitching the Glenfinnan Panel #24 - to add a stitch or two?

The progress you can see below is however from Janet Raeburn and Alison Dickson showing Lochiel's fateful meeting with the Prince at Borrodale - Panel #15 - and note the detailing of the bow in the Prince's whig....

Lochiel was not the only Clan Chief the Prince wrote to asking for support whilst he stayed at Borrodale. He spent more than two anxious weeks awaiting many of the responses .... and we catch an early glimpse of that embroidery below.

...and finally .... we've got a fascinating peek at some of the Pinkie House embroidery emerging too [as seen last Thursday] - where the Prince twice stayed ... of which more later

... and Yes, the studio at Cockenzie has been tidied up as wee bit ...

#15. Lochiel comes to Borrodale - July 30th
Finally Cameron of Lochiel agrees to visit the Prince at Borrodale and, as he always feared he would be, is persuaded to give his pledge that his Camerons will rally to his Standard when it is raised. Lochiel insists, however, on one condition. MacDonald of Glengarry must come out with the Prince too. To the Prince's delight, Glengarry agrees he will. All is now set for the Standard to be raised at Glenfinnan and the date is confirmed.
