Duke of Somerset returns to site of ancestor's victory in 1547
The 19th Duke of Somerset is visiting Pinkie Cleugh and East Lothian battlefields on April 28th/ 29th as the Battle of Prestonpoans publishes a new book, Blood Stain'd Fields, telling the story of all East Lothian's battles since before Roman times. The Duke's ancestor destroyed Edinburgh in 1544 and inflicted a crushing defeat on Earl of Arran and Scots forces at Pinkie Cleugh in 1547. He was 'roughly wooing' Mary Queen of Scots for Edward VI, his nephew, but she went to France and married the Dauphin!

BROADCASTER AND WRITER TO VISIT PRESTONPANS FOR DIASPORA TALKS
The well-known writer, broadcaster Billy Kay will be in Prestonpans on 4 December to meet pupils at Preston Lodge School and give a public talk at the Gothenburg.
Billy is an expert on Scottish culture, history and language and has produced and presented TV and radio programmes which have been aired all over the world. He is also an accomplished author and has written a number of books ? most recently on the Scottish diaspora, The Scottish World.

An exhibition of the 104-metre Battle of Prestonpans Tapestry in Corby?s Grampian Club, between 25 and 30 November, will signal a partnership with Corby in an ambitious new tapestry project.

GAELIC SEAL OF APPROVAL FOR NEW PRESTOUNGRANGE TAPESTRY
The Scottish Diaspora Tapestry, the latest tapestry project from the Prestoungrange Arts Festival, has been awarded a grant of ?10,000 for Gaelic translation of all its interpretation and web material.

HALLOWEEN HAPPENINGS AT THE GOTH
The Goth in Prestonpans is as ever the place to be this year at Halloween, with a range of events to suit the whole family.
Celebrations start at 8pm on Saturday 27 October, with a traditional Halloween Cabaret. The event will mark the arrival of Samhain, the Gaelic harvest festival of old, which gradually became linked to All Saints Day, or Halloween.

GIANT BATTLE TAPESTRY EXHIBITION COMING TO CORBY
An exhibition of the 104-metre Battle of Prestonpans Tapestry in Corby?s Grampian Club in November will signal a partnership with Corby in an ambitious new tapestry project.
Before the exhibition the team behind the Battle Tapestry want to make contact with local historians and embroiderers around Cory for a new project based on the Scottish Diaspora. There are special local workshops planned for 2 and 3 October where anyone interested in taking part can meet the organisers in person.

CANADIAN LINKS WANTED FOR GIANT SCOTTISH TAPESTRY PROJECT
A Scottish arts organisation is looking for people in Canada with family connections to Scotland who would like to take part in a project to create a massive international embroidered tapestry.
Two of the project team are spending the next two weeks (1 ? 14 September) in Canada meeting with organisations across the country to learn more about local Scots connections. But they are very keen to hear from other groups and individuals as well.

BATTLE TAPESTRY TO BE DISPLAYED IN BAYEUX
The Battle of Prestonpans Tapestry is to be exhibited alongside the world-famous Bayeux Tapestry in Normandy in the autumn of 2013.
The announcement came during a visit today (8 August) by the Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop to St Mary?s Cathedral in Edinburgh where the massive 104-metre Battle Tapestry is currently on display.
