John Muir Opera Coming from Dunbar in 2007

Scottish Opera at Work with Dunbar's Primary Schools

The John Muir Opera Project will be conducted in partnership with East Lothian Council at The Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh . It sounds truly exciting.

From January to June 2007, Scottish Opera Education will join forces with the Arts Education Team at East Lothian Council to deliver song-writing workshops for children from five primary schools in the Dunbar area. Over the course of six weeks workshops will introduce the skills involved in musical composition and libretto writing to 150 primary 5 pupils, drawing inspiration from the life and work of Dunbar born nineteenth century conservationist, John Muir.

Following these workshops, Scottish Opera will commission a new 30-minute children’s opera, bringing to life elements of the ideas explored by the children. The children then perform a semi-staged production of the new opera as part of East Lothian’s John Muir Festival celebrations in June 2007.

Performance dates: Wednesday 6 and Friday 8 June 2007, 1.30pm and 7.00pm. Book early to avoid disappointment.
