Lord Mayor’s Tales: 3 - A BIG RED BOOK TO CELEBRATE

Jane Bonnar had a dream. When the Historical Booklet series went into print four years ago ( in partnership with Annette McTavish of the Heritage Museum but now at Edinburgh Castle ), presenting the first 10 000 words on Prestongrange House by Sonia Baker, Jane dreamt of the day when they could all be brought together as a book.

That dream came true at Dinner, Wintoun House July 22nd, when Nos 1 – 15 published by Prestoungrange University Press, came together as an anthology in red leather! The title is A History of Prestoungrange and Dolphinstoun and a very limited edition indeed was produced in Celebration of the Lord Mayor’s Visit. A copy was of course there for Jane herself.

Everyone, including six authors present that evening, said: “Thank you Jane for your magnificent contribution. Your MA in Scottish History from Edinburgh University has served both you and the Baron Courts and Prestonpans extremely well and there is much to be proud of”.

[For those who wonder where the two soldiers come from the answer is Victoria BC and Seattle – 65th birthday gifts to Prestoungrange from his sister Anne and niece Fiona. The birthday was celebrated in Seattle on December 16th 2002 with all arrangements by The Organiser, Keira Shea. The soldiers are in fact Nutcrackers, celebrating a visit to the Nutcracker Ballet, which is the USA alternative to a Christmas pantomime.]

The Series Goes On...

Number 15 was by no means the last in the series … indeed Number 16: The Glenkinchie Story since 1723 by Craig Ward with most considerable assistance from Charlie Smith was to be published the following day when the Lord Mayor made his way to the Glenkinchie.

Anne Marie Allan is now in the Editorial Chair in succession to Jane Bonnar and new title ideas are buzzingly abounding! Witchcraft, The Prestoungrange Ceiling, Market Gardening, Famous Panners, The Churches of Prestonpans from Newbattle Days onwards...
