Battle Symposium Draft Programme Announced: September 18th/ 19th 2008

Trustees Announce Draft Programme - and Invite Early-Bird Registrations

Attendance at the Battle Symposium, Conference and Arts Festival in September is free, except for lunches which are optional. But Registration is necesary and will be accepted on a First Come, First Served Basis. Although there is plenty of space at the Prestonpans Community Centre for a big attendance Early-Bird Registration is urged.

A Heritage Lottery Fund Grant is helping to defray the costs that will be incurred because maximum involvement from the community as well as from all the other interested groups nationwide is sought. And the event is anticipated to be a biennial occasion in future i.e. every second year.

This first Symposium will hear how battlefield archaeological studies are conducted but also explore the emerging plans for which the Trustees are seeking big funding by 2011. The initial sketches and dynamics of the interior of the planned Visitor Centre will be debated and during the week a nationwide architectural competition will be launched.

The Symposium includes the presentation of the Battle of Pots and Pans on Thursday night and at its conclusion on Friday Prestonpans is due to occupied by Hanoverian Redcoats as a prelude to the re-enactments scheduled for Saturday September 20th. The Alan Breck Prestonpans Volunteers will be in evidence along with the Regiment's Pipes and Drums provided by the Royal British Legion in Prestonpans.

All quite an occasion not to be missed ... so Early-Bird Registration really is advised now to the addresses provided on the final page of the leaflet below - or simply by emailing here: kcunningham@blueyonder.co.uk
